Bimbeats File Processing - consultant journal files

Can you point me to a more detailed description about what Bimbeats File Processing can be used for and how it works? I found this page describing the configuration but it’s just about the settings, not an actual use. I’m just generally interested in how to take advantage of this feature, but I also had a specific question that brought it to mind… a question from one of our BIM managers about whether we could ingest journal files from an external consultant who is working in the same model with us, but who doesn’t (can’t) have our Bimbeats client installed on their system. The question was - if they send us their journal files, is there a way for us to feed those into Bimbeats and pull out the relevant infomation identifying that user in our Kibana dashboards?

Hey Eric

Happy New Year

Bimbeats File Processer is for processing specific files.

  • IFC, Tally, Autodesk Interop reports and BCF.

The easiest way is to say rename the file so you filter the data say “username_project_journaldata,txt”
Then simply copy paste that to the journal folder and it will get consumed under that machines details.

Happy to discuss.

Happy New Year Adam!

Okay, this idea also occurred to me, but I assume this will sort of jumble the consultant’s data with my own journal file data right? The user.name field will be me, not this other person for example, right? Anyway, that seems understandable.

I also just wanted to ask the question because I realized that I don’t understand how the Bimbeats File Processor actually works or what kind of Model Checker document I needed to drop in that folder in order for it to be processed and ultimately what does that look like in Kibana? Do you have any information on that process? Even a recorded presentation that might show how it works? Thanks again - we’ll talk soon.

For the first part can you use a virtual machine? then your name wont be assigned?

For the second part let me see what I can find for you! Find something next week!

Hey Adam - just wondering if you were able to find any documentation or recorded walkthrough of the file processor feature. Thanks!
